Te of the D’Urbervilles, also known as Te of the D’Urbervilles: A Pure Woman Faithfully Presented written by Thomas Hardy in 1891, depicts a story about the sufferings and misery of Te Durbeyfield.In Hardy’s hands, on the one hand, Te Durbeyfield is regarded as a pure, beautiful, diligent and tolerant rural woman;on the other hand, she is also subject to the rule of society of that time--women should comply with men.The story is mainly about the tragic love between Te Durbeyfield and Angel Clare.First, I prefer to making an introduction of the story, and then I will analyze the image and traits of the main characters in the story.Te is the oldest child of her family which is the descendant of a ruined aristocracy whose name is “D’Urbervilles”.When Te Durbeyfield was a maid, she was innocent, and longing for love.Once, in a ball, she met Angel Clare.She found that this man was quite different from other people in her village, so she had a good opinion of him and so did Angel.However, to solve the economy problem of her family, Te was asked by her father to look for a job through their so-called relation “the D’Urbervilles”.However, although she got a job in “the D’Urbervilles”, she was humbugged and raped by Alec D'Urberville whom she thought as her cousin.After suffering this painful event, she was miserable and anguished, especially when she delivered an aborted child.In order to release herself from the terrible past and start a new life, she decided to work as a milkmaid at Talbothays Dairy which was outside of her village.There, she befriended three of her fellow milkmaids, and met Angel again.Soon, she fell in love with him and they intended to marry.In the evening of the day of their marriage, Te told Angel her unhappy past and expected Angel to be carele about it.But, unfortunately, he could not stand her past, though he had also made awful mistakes before.Most importantly, in his mind, she was pure and perfect.So, when he knew her past, he was astounded, and decided to go to Brazil.So disappointed Te was that she became a labor in a factory.More worse, she came acro Alec again, and she was trapped into his tempt.Yet, Angel got a serious illne at Brazil, and he did not know Te had written a lot of letters to him.When he came back London, he found he still loved Te so deeply that he entreated Te to be his wife.Neverthele, Te did not accept his petition.So, Angel had to left her house.After Angel’s leaving, Te was out of rage, quarreling with Alec, and killed him accidentally.Soon, she eloped with Angel, but finally was caught at Stonehenge, and died in a jail.In my opinion, Te is not only a woman who is beautiful outwardly and pure inwardly, but

also a woman who dares to love and hate.She loves Angel completely, and is willing to do anything for him.However, the miserable past makes her painful and inferior.Also, she is sensitive to others’ ridicule, especially when she stays with Angel.Thus, she finally decided to tell him her story, but only got a cool and bad result.In addition, she hates Alec, because it is he who upsets her life extremely.This is the reason why she kills him eventually, too.However, I think the misery of Te is caused not just by Alec, but herself included.Although she is daring and bold, she is fettered by the principle of society in that time.At the same time, she depends on man to a large extent, for she regards Angel as Angel.She places her hope absolutely on Angel, and wishes to be forgiven and accepted by him.Moreover, when Angel leaves her to Brazil, she becomes the lover of Alec though she is reluctant.From above, we can see that she bows to the power of man and expects too much to man rather than herself.So, Te, I think, is still a traditional woman.As for Alec D’Urbervilles, it is obvious that he is a hypocritical, contemptible and cunning man.He inveigles Te into a remote place, and deprives her chastity.Such behavior is outrageous and disgusting.Besides, I cannot imagine that he deceptively makes a confeion in front of a group of believers at the very start, but soon gives up his belief when he sees Te again.He defends himself that his change of mind should not ascribe to him but to Te who tempts him again and again with her beautiful appearance.Further, Knowing that Te is discarded by her husband Angel, he tells Te that her husband would never come back.Instead of her husband and to satisfy his desire to Te, he tries to treat Te’s family kindly, which compels Te to live with him.In regard to Angel Clare, in my eyes, he is coward and traditional although he is also handsome and glamorous.He is one of the sons in his family(his father is a clergyman).His parents wants him to marry a woman who is well educated, good-tempered and high-raking.However, when he meets Te, he falls in love with her, because she is fully a perfect woman in his eyes.But, after knowing her past, her perfect image is broken drastically in his heart.At last, in order to refresh his mind, he chooses to flee.Actually, I cannot accept his behavior, because now that Te forgives him, he should forgive her if he loves Te indeed.However, under the influence of the traditional values, he cannot overcome them and persuade himself into accepting Te.From this point, I think Te is wretched, for she is the person who suffers a lot in past, despised by many people around her, and betrayed by Angel relentlely(even though he accepts her at last).This sounds

illogical(Te was looked down by many people because she was raped), but still prevail at that time, and even lasted to the present.All in all, Te of the D’Urbervilles reflects the evil of society in England of that time, encourages the thought of anti-tradition, and also eulogizes pure love.

刚拿到《德伯家的苔丝》这本书，翻了翻序言，说自己会被这本书气死。孩孩爸说那就别看了。可是就因为这个序言，我决定把书看完，真正了解一下苔丝。

毫无疑问，苔丝是个好姑娘，聪明，善良，勤劳，坚韧。可就是因为这些美好和她不应该受到的待遇形成了强烈的反差，让我读完气不打一处来。

苔丝的爸爸妈妈怎么会如此愚昧！家族早已没落，他俩却被没有多大意义的血统冲昏了头脑，总想着联宗认亲，让苔丝嫁个阔人，从此改变全家的生活。这俩人醉生梦死，毫无责任感，一个女孩子家毫无社会经验，在还不知道人性的险恶时他们就把苔丝逼着送进假冒的德伯家族，送进了狼窝，是他们亲手造成了苔丝的悲惨遭遇。

《德伯家的苔丝》所处的时代视贞操为女人纯洁与否的标志，这对苔丝极不公平，事情发生的时候她几乎还是一个孩子，如何能够抵抗一个成年男子的侵害？

一般的姑娘都会忍着痛苦想办法嫁给伤害自己的男人，要不，根据教义，这样“不纯洁”的女人是不能出嫁的。可是苔丝，她勇敢地离开了亚雷德伯，用自己的双手创造生活，这一点连亚雷德伯最后都真正是对她尊敬了起来。

苔丝安安静静地挤牛奶，只想躲起来，到一个没有人知道她身世的地方赚钱养活自己养活家人。然而，好姑娘，君子好逑，好小伙安玑克莱爱上了她。苔丝一直压抑自己的情感，发誓独自一生，可是安玑克莱热烈的追求终于让她打开了爱的闸门。她在道德的约束下，一而再地想要说清楚自己的过去，热恋中的安玑克莱却屡屡阻止，这一段让我读着尤其揪心，在我看来，两人真心相爱，真的需要把过去坦白，之后两人才能毫无罅隙地过下去。然而，作者偏偏不那么安排，苔丝当面无论如何不能直接开口说给他听，好不容易下决心写的信，竟然被门挤压到毯子下面，错过了最佳坦白时间。诚实、善良的苔丝在结婚当晚，鼓足最大的勇气说出了所有的事实。口口声声说爱她的安玑克莱沉默了，他无法接受这个现实，在他眼里，自己爱上的苔丝不再是眼前这个姑娘，哈，这一段又把我气得不轻，苔丝再早一点勇敢地让他知道就好了，省得结婚又受冷遇，受到二次伤害！

当安玑克莱远走非洲，苔丝始终没有向克莱家提出过任何救助的请求，她像个男人一样干着体力活，累到快要趴下都没有再次依附又一次对她动了心思的亚雷德伯，明明可以和亚雷德伯结婚，过上衣食无忧的生活，可她心里只有安玑克莱，满满的都是对爱情的忠贞。

4 ascend Te up to the Heaven, than throw her back into inferno.2.3.Te Durbeyfield No one should impute all his or her misfortune to others, so does Te.There is no doubt that a couple of defects imprinted in Te’ nature partly contributed to her mishap.Though it is widely acknowledged that Te is an innocent, kind-hearted, filial, single-minded, defiant, enduring and staunch country girl, we have to admit that she is easy to compromise both to Angel Clare and Alec D’Urbervilles, and timid to face her own history especially when she encountered Angel.Besides, her confiding nature also entails her miserable story.At the beginning of the story, Te was sent to claim kindred with the D’Urbervilles who were actually not genuine.Knowing that Alec D’Urbervilles had been coveting her beauty, she didn’t rebuff him decisively because his material endowment to her poor family.For one thing, she was responsible so much so that she didn’t want to fail her family.For the other, she was so confiding that she even enjoyed his teaching her whistling.Worst of all, in the very night of the accident, Te made the inconsiderate decision to go with Alec when she was trapped in a wrangling.Feeling deeply beholden to his favor, she distorted her own life trajectory on account of her innocence and purity.Since her encounter with Angel Clare, Te gradually resumed her paion for life as well as her courage to love.Her sense of guilt eventually gave way to her ardent love for Clare.Never before in her life had she been so valiant and devoting.But still, the tainted past had always been the core stuck in her throat.We may, speaking for her sake, defend that she always mied the proper time to confe her history.However, she didn’t disclose her past, in my view, owing to her timidity and cowardline.She loved Clare with heart and soul so that she could hardly bear losing him before she even got him.Anguish beyond measure deep down, she was abandoned by her love and plunged into ceasele regret.All those agony, she felt she deserve.When her father abruptly died and placed her whole family on the verge of homelene, she had no alternative but turn to Alec.She compromised finally, but extremely unwillingly.When Angel came back for her, she was eventually overwhelmed by her love and stabbed Alec to death.What seems a wretched ending for us but a satisfactory one for Te.The final days’ company with her love was sweet enough to offset all her bitterne she had endured.5 Te, innocent as she was, had being brewing her misery all her life.Therefore, she was also a major element contributing to her tragedy.2.4.Mr.and Mrs.Durbeyfield As the parents of our heroine, Mr.and Mrs.Durbeyfield disappointed us with their ignorant, superficial, self-interested and irresponsible nature.It is never exaggerative to say that it was them who pushed their daughter into the misfortune aby.Mr.Durbeyfield opened the story with his stupidity——he was so convinced by the story of being the descendent of an extinct noble family.Sluggish and stupid as he was, he even fancied to become rich by claiming kindred.As the elder daughter, Te was naturally became the tool for his ill-planned “blue-print”.With the knowledge of their daughter’s being molested, what came into the mind of Mrs.Durbeyfield was that she might marry noble and rich rather than that she might in danger.Never had they make self-examination.After Te was insulted, they didn’t comfort her, instead, Mr.Durbeyfield even regarded her as a stain on their reputation.A family without families’ due warmne is the reason why Te was so independent and shouldered everything herself.Mrs.Durbeyfield was no better than Mr.Durbeyfield.In her letter to her daughter when Te was struggling with her choice of marrying Angel, Mrs.Durbeyfield persuaded Te to mine the secret forever.Although, it is understandable that a mother wish her daughter poe felicity, her conduct unconsciously laid the foreshadowing of the terrible end.If they were a slightly more competent and responsible, their daughter would not have to shoulder so many burdens and preure which ruined her due happine.As parents, they were far from competent.Family, as is known, is supposed to be the haven for those drifters.Whereas, Te’ family left her nothing but unbearable stre and became the last place she wanted to go.As parents, they are more than pathetic.2.5.Te’ friends Izz, Retty and Marian

Not everyone emerged in Te’ life imposed misery upon her.There was some who did bring her goodne, her three companions who shared the same room with her, for example.They were equally innocent, pure enduring and tough as Te.Besides, they were also fascinated by Mr.Clare.6 Rare animals they are.There is nowhere to find a girl who sacrifices her love for the sake of her friend and even helped her out of her adversity.However, the three are precisely the sort of rare girls.Unlike Te, the three had never had their past stained.They were brave in their fruitle love for Clare.Knowing that Clare and Te were in deep love with each other, they were envious but not hatred toward Te.On the day of their marriage, the three respectively did some stupid things because of their flooding emotion.However, when they found out that Te was abandoned long before her marriage, they did not gloat at her calamity.In stead, they tried to comfort and help her.What worth mention is Izz.Before Clare resolved to head for Brazil, he was so overwhelmed by sorrow that he asked Izz to go with him.Izz accepted his invitation.But when asked how much she loved Clare, Izz said she did love Clare, but her love was no a patch on Te who could die for him.It was her remarks that awakened Clare and he apologized for his repulsive movement.During Clare’s absent, Izz and Marian offered Te a job which was so urgent for her.companionship was more than precious for the then calamity-stricken Te.The three unsophisticated girls lived in their own world and influenced Te’ life unconsciously.3.Conclusion Te, as Hardy portrayed, is a heroine with respectable traits but end up with adversity.Her misfortune is by no means an accident, but the collective result of all characters emerged in her life, including her own.No individual is accountable for her calamity.All of them shaped their respective traits under the influence of the temporal culture background and social convention.They were orbiting around their own tracks when accidentally intersected with Te’.The influence is mutual and can be great and small.Probably, some of them can hardly sense the existence of Te, but others’ life was altered dramatically for her presence.Beneath the hand of Hardy portrayed a society trammeled by conventional and rigid codes, in which Te was one of those who were tragically stifled and deprived the right to enjoy a felicitous life.She is the epitome Hardy used to denunciate the dark society.Her calamity is by no means an accident, nor is it the only one.Through her story, we are provoked to pierce deeper into that society and ponder more.

悲剧，可谓是徘徊在爱恨边缘的一个词。它把美好的一切玩弄于鼓掌之间，然后硬生生的在你面前打碎，叫人无法一味的去爱它。可当那美好不再完整的时候，却反而让人觉得平静，它逼你不得不承认，那才是真实。

《德伯家的苔丝》里的女主人公苔丝是被托马斯·哈代理想化了的现代女性。在哈代的世界中,苔丝是美的象征和爱的化身，具有大自然纯真的本性，代表着威塞克斯人的一切优秀的方面：美丽、纯洁、善良、质朴、仁爱和容忍。苔丝一生追求幸福，对亚雷敢恨，对克莱敢爱。哈代坚持道德的纯洁在于心灵的纯洁，不在于一时的过错，因此在他看来，苔丝是“一个纯洁的女人”。

不过，这世上，没有什么是偶然，有的，只是必然。

苔丝的悲剧如果归于命运弄人无疑显得牵强。她虽然在一定程度上大胆反抗传统道德，但又囿于它的观念成为传统的维护者。这在一方面更深层次表现了传统道德对苔丝人性的迫害，心灵的扭曲，另一面，苔丝的人生价值观、情感观所体现出来的对男权社会的服从与忍耐成为她命运悲惨的最终原因。

苔丝的父亲异想天开要17岁的苔丝到附近一个有钱的德伯老太太那里去认“本家”，幻想借此摆脱经济上的困境。苔丝根本不愿意去认亲，却因心有愧疚，只好硬着头皮去了。家庭的重担和自身的责任感一开始就给她的命运笼上了一层阴影。面对亚雷，她充满疑惧但年幼无知，贫穷无依又使她无法回避亚雷，最后轻信了亚雷，遭到玷污。在资产阶级的道德面前，她被看成是侵犯了清白领域的“罪恶化身”。苔丝在受到世俗舆论、传统道德摧残的同时，可悲的是她同样用这一道德标准来静观自己，这就使她的悲剧显得更浓重、更深沉。苔丝是暴力的受害者，是无辜的，她明白这一点，但是在受到乡里人非议的同时，她也认为自己是“有罪”的，她选择默默的承受。这种静观的结果，必然造成她内在的自我折磨和谴责，因此，使她所受的磨难，所遭受的不幸和痛苦，就更加沉重和强烈。苔丝按照传统的贞操观来衡量自己的清白与否，她比别人更不能忘记自己的“耻辱”。

苔丝来到另外一个农场谋求生活，那是一个新的生活起点。同时，有了足够的经济基础去追求自己的生活。可是，她并没有看到这些，自我价值认同的缺乏最突出表现在苔丝对爱情的态度上。

克莱的出现注定了苔丝的又一次的悲剧。克莱爱苔丝，但不像苔丝爱他那样无私和真诚，在他眼里，苔丝是“大自然的新生女儿”，纯洁的象征，完美无暇的杰作，这种过于理想化与观念化的爱，以及克莱心里深层那种根深蒂固的传统伦理道德观念都扼杀了克莱真实的感受。所以当苔丝诚实地向他坦白了自己过去所受凌辱，克莱心目中的偶像就彻底崩塌了。他不能接受现实，不止一次地对苔丝说：“我原来爱的那个女人不是你！是另一个模样儿跟你一样的女人”。如果说是亚雷·德伯毁坏了苔丝的肉体，那么安玑·克莱带给她的则是精神上的毁灭打击。

而苔丝并没有意识到克莱狭隘的爱，一方面因为苔丝受到过伤害，所以在她内心对真爱是非常渴望的，她是希望被疼爱被保护的，因此当她遇到克莱后，她心底迸发出的爱会更加的强烈。苔丝崇拜克莱以至于把他视为天使，在这种炽热的爱情面前，苔丝完全失去了自主性，被自己的爱蒙蔽了双眼，成了爱情的奴隶。

另一方面，她仍然把自己定位于一个“应受到社会谴责与唾弃的不净女子”，不敢把自己与克莱尔放在同一地位上，用悬殊的地位来衡量自己的爱。克莱的爱使她感到幸福，可是在体验到幸福的同时，感受到更多的是内心的痛苦与折磨，是恐惧、不安、悔恨和羞耻。这一切都表明苔丝无法忘记过去，更无法卸掉背在自己身上沉重的精神十字架。她似乎天生灵魂有罪，注定永远受折磨，永远遭痛苦，心灵永远不的平静。这种“灵魂有罪”，使她始终处在负疚、自责、自卑的状态。

苔丝一直处于感性与理性的矛盾之中。在结婚前，她既对克莱正直的为人，自立的意志和对她的关怀有好感，又自哀失身于人，不配做他的妻子。在结婚后，她既无法控制对克莱强烈的爱，但又怀着犯罪感和内疚感，觉得必须得“坦白”。苔丝深陷这种纠结的矛盾之中，却可以完全不在乎克莱其实也有过放荡的过去这个事实。她对克莱的爱其实是处于被动地位的，这也正是她对克莱“奴隶式”的爱以及她无法磨灭的自卑感造成的。

克莱对苔丝不仅没有丝毫同情，甚至“不能优容苔丝”，他视而不见苔丝对他的一片深情厚意，冷酷无情地抛弃了她，置苔丝于痛苦绝望之中，而且永远扑灭了爱情在她心中重新唤起的希望。贞洁的丧失带给苔丝深深的痛苦，但还未能泯灭她求生的欲望和对未来的希望，而被自己完全依赖的情人所遗弃，则摧毁了她生活的精神支柱，令她万念俱灭，丧失了生活的勇气。至此，苔丝仍然在自责着，即使被克莱无情抛弃，也认为是自己的罪过，默默忍受命运的摆布。在她心里，失去贞操是她的不对，是她对克莱的不忠诚。她渴望得到谅解，即便在克莱抛弃她后远去巴西，她都依然苦等他的归来，企盼得到他的原谅。

此后，“冤家路狭”，苔丝又碰见自己深恶痛绝的亚雷。亚雷纠缠苔丝，无耻的企图与她同居，面对困难重重的窘境，孤立无援、百般无奈的苔丝在亚雷的金钱诱逼、花言巧语之下，选择了妥协，又一次落入了亚雷的圈套。她不得不以牺牲自己的人格为代价，和亚雷在一起，充当他的情妇，为一家人换取一个安身之所。克莱抛弃苔丝后，远涉异国来到巴西，饱受生活磨难之后，才真正了解人生，才认识到自己所固守的传统道德是何等的迂腐，既坑害了苔丝，也坑害了自己。内心的悔恨，对苔丝的思念，使他又重新去找苔丝，然而，苔丝的幸福早已被他断送了，他的到来，只能更加深苔丝的不幸，使她更感受到自身的屈辱，此时苔丝心中痛苦、悔恨、绝望之情达到顶点。丈夫的归来，两人的重逢，使苔丝看到自己再一次受骗，一怒之下，杀死亚雷，复了仇，对自己长期所受的痛苦，所遭受的折磨和屈辱，以及命运对自己的不公正，进行了大胆的、强烈的抗议。可无奈的是，她恰恰选择了最极端的方式。

他们在荒漠的原野里度过了几天逃亡的欢乐生活，最终等待苔丝的，是无法逃避的绞刑架。她永远都不能从克莱的情感世界中走出来，直到临死的那一刻。她希望克莱尔能娶自己的妹妹来表达她对他的爱，所以可以说，直到她死，她的思想依然是被束缚的。

苔丝性格中真善美的毁灭，是社会的扼杀的结果，但悲剧的形成又同性格的内在矛盾不可分割。故而说，苔丝悲剧的美学特质在社会悲剧总前提下，又属于性格悲剧。因而她的悲剧更深刻、更感人。苔丝一生都逆来顺受，忍受含垢，不能自卫，而当她有生以来第一次起来自卫的时候，“‘典型’明证了，埃斯库罗斯所说的那个众神主宰对于苔丝的戏弄也完结了。”苔丝成了资产阶级国家祭坛上的祭品。苔丝的悲剧不仅仅源于命运注定了她的不幸,无法逃脱。而是,在那个时代背景下,女性心理的不健全,对自我意识的缺失,最终成了她悲剧人生的助推器。

苔丝是一个美丽善良的农村姑娘,由于家境贫寒,不得不到富人家攀亲,不幸被亚雷·德伯诱奸而蒙羞回家。

由于不堪忍受乡里邻居的风言风语,苔丝到远离家乡的奶牛场打工,在那里她与牧师的儿子安琪·克莱尔相遇、相恋,并决定结婚。在新婚之夜,苔丝坦白了自己过去的不幸遭遇,然而克莱尔无法忍受这个现实,抛弃她远走巴西。

为了贫困的家庭,苔丝被迫再次沦为亚雷的情妇。经过一番痛苦的挣扎,克莱尔从巴西回来请求苔丝的谅解。在愤怒和绝望中苔丝杀死了亚雷,和克莱尔一起度过了短暂的幸福时光,最后由于谋杀罪而被绞死。我认为造成苔丝悲剧的原因有很多：

苔丝的悲剧源于苔丝性格的妥协性，表现在她和安琪儿的关系上。恋人之间本是平等的，而苔丝却一味贬低自己,抬高安琪儿，这是多么浓烈﹑炽热却又卑躬屈膝的爱。她悲惨的过去,得不到安琪儿的宽容，面对安琪儿无情的抛弃,苔丝没有做丝毫反抗。安琪儿离去了,苔丝对他的爱却从未削减，一封封热情洋溢的信,却唤不回安琪儿冰冷的心，在爱情面前,苔丝失去了自我,失去了尊严，正是这种盲目的﹑不平等的爱,使苔丝放弃了一个妻子争取幸福的权利,深化了苔丝的悲剧。

苔丝的悲剧也是由她异常低下的社会经济、政治和阶级地位造成的,没有任何社会地位的破落家庭直接导致了悲剧的发生。她虚荣的父亲一心想恢复昔日显赫的德伯维尔家族的荣耀;她无知的母亲一直梦想让漂亮的苔丝嫁入豪门,成为阔太太,借此解决日益严峻的家庭危机。苔丝从来不考虑个人的忧患得失,一心关注家人的生活。家中老马的意外死亡,也就是苔丝悲惨命运的开始,她认为自己应该对家庭负责,照顾好弟弟妹妹,所以她向冒牌本家求助,亚雷·德伯利用苔丝的天真淳朴,无耻地诱奸了她。新婚丈夫抛弃她以后,她凭着坚强的意志自力更生,屡次抵制亚雷的物质诱惑,但是父亲去世后,为了让家人有栖身之处,她再次委身亚雷,过着“行尸走肉”般的生活,此时她的精神世界已经崩溃了。

《德伯家的苔丝》读后感

前一段日子，读完了《苔丝》——流着眼泪读完的。

这是我第二次读这篇小说了，可从次数上来看虽是第二次，实质上只能说是第一次，或者说是一次多一点点。我第一次看这篇小说的时候才只是一个小学生，对文学作品的理解能力有限，而且读得也很粗略，那时，我对《苔丝》的唯一印象就是挺好看的，苔丝这个人物挺可怜的，除此以外便所剩无几了，根本没有把自己融入整个情节中去，根本没有对苔丝这个悲剧性的人物作过任何有意识的评价，根本没有想过苔丝一步一步走向毁灭是与其性格，与她所处的环境是如此密不可分。这一次阅读，我不敢说我已经看懂了，但我对整个情节有了比以往更深刻的了解。

至此为止，我所说的都是苔丝，也许你会问起安吉尔为什么会接受不了苔丝曾被亚历克玷污并产有一子这一残酷事实而提出与她分居，他不是很爱苔丝吗?难道他对苔丝的爱并不是高尚的吗?那么，我要说，他是因为太爱苔丝了，他心目中的苔丝是如此美丽，如此善良，是一切纯洁的象征，他忍受不了他眼中所见，心目所想的苔丝有任何过错，他努力扼杀自己对苔丝的感情，他觉得那个属于他的苔丝已经不存在了，在他眼前的，已经不是他以前所深恋的苔丝，而是有着苔丝形貌的另一个女人。新婚之夜，也就是苔丝把往事告诉他的那个夜晚，也就是他们开始分居的那个夜晚，他曾梦游，抱着苔丝走到了树林中，把苔轻轻放在一口棺材中，看过这篇小说的人一定不会忘记他当时所一直重复说的那一句话：“死了，死了，苔丝，我的妻子死了，死了。”在他的心中，最最美好的那个苔丝死了，不存在了，他的悲痛，他的绝情，他的弃苔丝而去的行为，正是因为他觉得自己失去了当初最真最纯的苔丝。

至于亚历克，我不想多说，他给苔丝带来的灾难是显而易见的，他对苔丝所做的一切，根本不是出自他对苔丝的爱，因为爱是高尚的，他对苔丝只有情欲可言，丝毫没有爱的根据。然而，苔丝并没有因为亚历克给她带来的打击而不纯洁，她自始至终都是那么的纯洁，善良，都显得那么美丽。

苔丝是一个普通的农村姑娘，但作为女人，她拥有迷人的外表。漂亮的脸蛋，和恰到好处的身材。哈代给这个人物以重墨描绘，那就是着重写了她的外在形象。这个形象年轻美貌，天真活泼。给我映象最深的是她性感的嘴唇，和她唇上的曲线。粉嫩娇艳，如花沾露的唇，再加之细致分明，乖巧柔美的线条，在顾盼流转间，不动人也难。就是这样一位年轻美丽质朴的姑娘，她善良纯真的天性却被狠毒自私的上流社会的一位青年贵族亚力克利用欺骗，始终不能摆脱亚力克的阴影，而走向黑暗的深渊。她无力摆脱这种悲惨命运，只能用极端扭曲的方式对加在她身上的压迫进行反抗。可是这反抗又有什么用呢？只不过是大海中的一朵浪花，瞬间就会消失，被人们所遗忘，完全不可能动摇整个冷酷残忍的社会。所以说，只靠个人力量的反抗，根本不起作用。这也是人性乃至社会的悲哀。

当她好不容易逃离亚力克的魔掌，随后去农场工作，并遇见了自己今后所爱的人——克莱尔，克莱尔欣赏苔丝的纯真可爱，在工作中交流频繁，感情不断升温，最后坠入爱河并义无反顾地结婚了。就在幸福快要来临时，因为苔丝的对过去不堪往事的吐露，导致两人从幸福的高空一下子跌入了现实的谷底。克莱尔因为接受不了这一事实，毅然离开苔丝，远走他乡，无情地抛弃了可怜的苔丝。就是这样一位遭到命运戏弄的可怜人儿，想要与爱的人在一起幸福生活，就连这样一个简单平凡的愿望也没法实现，最终走投无路，惶惶不可终日，再加上亚力克的骚扰，她万念俱灰，对生活完全失去了希望，而动了杀念，杀死了侮辱她的，一直让她痛不欲生的亚力克。在杀死了亚力克之后，苔丝并没有为此后悔难过，而是一下次轻松了，因为死对于她来说是一种解脱，她终于自由了。她以死来证明自己对爱情的忠诚，来成全自己和克莱尔纯洁美好的爱情而没有遗憾。亚力克也为当初抛弃苔丝而感到后悔，带着巨大的悲痛与歉疚归来，并与即将被处死的苔丝度过了她生命最后五天快乐的时光。但是他失去了一个深爱她的人，一个把他当做生命一部分的人，一个可以为了他去死的人。可是后悔已经来不及了，因为他的自私和所谓的虚伪道德的约束，而使苔丝陷入悲惨的境地。对于苔丝来讲，克莱尔是她的希望，是她一切快乐的源泉，她为认识他而感到幸福，可是克莱尔把她最后一点希望也给抹灭了，即使后来克莱尔请求苔丝的原谅，以及在苔丝死后怀念追忆她，也无济于事。可以说，克莱尔也间接促成苔丝的死亡，但是直接促使她走向死亡的还是这个社会，是社会的悲剧。其实社会中像苔丝这样的可怜人很多，他们虽然身份卑微，但他们作为独立的人格，不应该被社会歧视抛弃，而是应该为他们提供一个可以倾诉的平台。这样才不会出现如此多的悲剧。

如果说卡门的美在于野性叛逆，简爱的美在于倔强顽强，那么苔丝的美一定在于纯净自然，她是大自然的女儿。她的纯洁就像蓝天一样，虽然偶而会被乌云遮住，可是当乌云散去，世界上最纯净透明的依然是蓝天。虽然小说女主人公身份低贱，遭受了无耻之徒的玩弄和侮辱，历经重重磨难，最后走上了错误的道路，但我们依然赞美苔丝不屈服于命运，敢于和不公平命运做斗争以及为爱奉献的精神，她单纯善良的形象将永远留在我心中，挥之不去。

所谓的维多利亚时代，就是英国工业革命的时期。维多利亚时代当时的社会崇尚的是道德修养和谦虚礼貌，也是科学文明飞速发展的时期，在小说里面非常多的情节中都有提及到有牧师在街道上布道也体现了这几点。但正是因为这种崇尚道德修养和谦虚礼貌的社会风气，许多暴发户也为提升自己身价进入上流社会而纷纷模仿贵族们的习惯。文中的亚雷就是其中之一，他家也是一个暴发户。正因没有受到正确的道德修养和礼貌的教育，才导致了后来奸污苔丝和后来一系列诱逼苔丝与他同居等惨剧的发生。

《德伯家的苔丝》写的就是在当时社会的迫使下，一名纯真、朴素、勤劳的农村姑娘苔丝走向堕落。作者托马斯·哈代笔中的苔丝正是当时社会上正义、纯真、勤劳、向往美好未来的女人的一个缩影，她身上充满着爱和对他人的信任。文中写到苔丝被亚雷奸污了以后便毫不犹豫的选择了离开了亚雷回到家中，体现出了她内心的纯真，她不愿迫使自己与一个自己非常憎恨的人在一齐生活一辈子，她那种对未来美好生活的追求的迫切希望。回到家中的苔丝得知自己已经怀孕了以后，不但没有把对亚雷的憎恨转移到这孩子身上，反而不顾家人

和朋友的责备，义无反顾的生下了孩子并悉心照顾他，但最后这孩子还是夭折了。这体现出了苔丝非常有爱，她的灵魂是高尚的，她的道德也是高尚的，但却被社会所唾弃，被当时的社会所否认，认为她是一个伤风败俗、罪业深重的女人。在这里作者表面上写的是苔丝作为一个弱智和受害者非但没有得到同情，反而被社会所批判的惨状，但其实作者真实想反应的是当时社会的一种虚伪的道德标准和当时社会丑陋的风俗的一种批判。作者托马斯·哈代批判的不仅是当时社会虚伪的道德标准，还有当时以克莱为代表的资产阶级的封建传统的道德伦理准则，而苔丝则是当时这种社会陋俗中的牺牲品。作者托马斯·哈代通过苔丝的悲惨经历揭示了这种社会陋俗社会风气的弊端和卑劣的一面，把它残酷血性的一面完全的揭示出来。苔丝是社会的悲剧。

我认为苔丝的一生都是充满着戏剧性的，小说全文通篇都在写苔丝走向末路的悲惨经历，但从中也经常会发现一些看似偶然，但却又像是冥冥中早注定命运安排的情节。如苔丝被侵犯前在舞会结束后与亚雷家的女仆争吵的小插曲，还有苔丝在开篇与克莱的相遇但却不相识到后来再次与克莱相遇并相爱到后来的互相产生爱慕之情并结为夫妻。都充满着戏剧色彩，也正是这样才能更好的体现出作者的真实感受和真实想反映的社会背景风俗习惯和社会陋习等，也为以后对苔丝悲惨经历的描写和小说的结果作了一个完美的诠释。整篇小说是以苔丝父亲得知自己是当地著名武士后裔到让苔丝去认亲和之后所发生的一切悲惨事情的经历为主线的，这样更好的体现出了造成苔丝的悲剧的成因不仅是社会的因素，还有苔丝她自己本身的一种性格错误的原因。

不过，《德伯家的苔丝》还是一部非常有意义的小说，从中也了解到了许多很重要的东西。

因为偷食了禁果，所以才进不了天堂。明明都爱着，爱的痛苦，也爱的绝望。

为了丈夫，竟然可以杀死另一个深爱着自己的男人。为了，为了换那短暂五天的幸福。可以道貌岸然的生活在一

太阳的光芒，还是沉睡在地下的野蛮的穿着武士装的身躯，这是始祖，暴力而又野蛮，数代后，自食恶果，尝到悲惨结局。

走得那么从容，已经看透。因为堕落了，孩子夭折进不了天堂，徘徊在角落。因为堕落了，所以张开了天使的翅膀。

突然，就想到了以前看过的魔鬼的一句话：你终于长出了天使的翅膀。(很美，但忘记是在哪一本书上看到。)

读到这里我心中一阵激动，我仿佛看到一个高尚的灵魂，左右了她那质朴敦厚的天性，这真是一个真正善良、真心待人的好姑娘呀，真令人感动。在苔丝回到娘家又身无分文时，因为失恋而酗酒的玛丽安又帮她找到了一份工作，使苔丝的生活又有了一丝光亮。在那些阴霾的日子中，温暖着苔丝冰冷的心的依然是这份暖人的友情……

如果说卡门的美在于野性叛逆，简爱的美在于倔强顽强，那么苔丝的美一定在于纯净自然，她是大自然的女儿。她的纯洁就像蓝天一样，虽然偶而会被乌云遮住，可是当乌云散去，世界上最纯净透明的依然是蓝天。

作为女人，她有迷人的外表。漂亮的脸蛋，和恰到好处的身材。哈代给这个美人加了点色，那就是着重去写了她的唇，她唇上的曲线。说那是任何男人都会为之神魂颠倒。红丽娇艳，如花沾露的唇，本身就是情种，再加之细致分明，乖巧柔美的线条，在顾盼流间，不动人也难。

苔丝是坚强的，乐观的，她的命运却不可逆。即使再多给苔丝几次选择，我相信她最终仍然会走老路，除非安玑克莱没有抛弃她远走他乡。关于社会的悲剧，家庭的悲剧，人性的悲剧已有很多定论，令我感到叹息的只有苔丝和克莱的爱情悲剧。两个人吃尽了苦头，绕了一大圈又回到了原点，只是物是人非，苔丝选择了死亡来成全他们美好的爱情。终究到底是一场空。对于苔丝来说，她承受的苦难远大于克莱，她内心的彷徨无助克莱永远体会不到，如若不是苔丝的善良痴心，不计一切的去爱克莱，他们早已成为陌路人了。受尽苦难的苔丝实际什么都没有得到，受尽了侮辱，却只想到要成全克莱的高尚纯洁，最后只能把克莱拜托给自己的妹妹。在这场爱情当中，克莱是完全的操控着，最后的大赢家，苔丝是完全的牺牲者，纯粹的奉献自我至死方休。克莱表现出来的虽然看上去是维护心中那份对爱情的信念，实际暴露出来的是那份冷酷与自私!他爱的仅仅是自己虚构的一个形象，并非活生生的苔丝。如果不是在异国他乡遭受病痛的折磨事业的失败我相信他不会还记得有个苔丝在泥沼里苦等着他前去营救。

爱情的发生，谁能说清楚孰真孰假?天时地利人和都要到位，一点点细小的差错就能导致去安排的否定。即使最终结为伉俪，也无从分辨爱情是否真的发生过。她那么爱安琪儿，不仅是他的容貌，不仅是他的琴声，不仅是他能给她带来的一切，甚至包括失去的，甚至为他所受的痛苦，她都能承受。她记得他说的每一句话，她学唱他喜欢的歌，连他的那些理论，那些她自己还似懂非懂的理论，她都牢记着，奉若神明。

他成了她的呼吸，她的生命。当安机问伊兹，那个曾经爱他的姑娘，能否像苔丝那样爱他时，伊兹几乎脱口而出，她不能，因为苔丝的爱是无法比的，她可以为他而死的。在别人眼里，都能看出苔丝，如此厚重的爱。可见这爱的程度了。

安机正是因为苔丝独具特色的纯净才爱上她并向她求婚。可是当苔丝向她所爱的人坦白她那受伤的过去时，克莱尔犹豫了，对爱人的不理解和对感情的不坚定让她最终选择了离开。苔丝心碎了，当她帮她的伤口小心翼翼的展现在所爱的人的面前时，她希望的是理解，是原谅。可是爱人却狠心的在弱小的苔丝的伤口上洒了一把盐。

苔丝的爱，不仅表现在欢愉时，全身心的投入。更在于，当她明知道，安琪儿抛弃她，在她痛苦万分，而安琪儿梦游时，抱着她走时，她本可以叫醒他，唤回他的爱心，取得召他回头的可能时，她也在为他醒来着想，怕他醒来懊悔，而放弃。

虽然后来克莱尔意识到自己的偏见和狭隘，他的心仿佛看见天上有一颗名叫“苔丝”的星星对他说：“亲爱的，现在你原谅我了么?”

很美的感觉。但是，这终究是一个悲剧，仿佛许多的爱情都是如此。为什么不可以抗拒，抗拒那虚伪的道德!离别，等待，彷徨，后悔„„虽然苔丝和克莱尔最后度过了五天美好的时光，可是，为爱复仇的苔丝结局依然悲惨。

爱是伟大的，是无私的。如果你深爱一个人，就应该接受她的过去，因为过去也是她的一部分，是她心灵的一部分。如果你不能接受她的过去，就永远无法走进她的内心，她那颗深爱你的心。情到深处是理解，爱到深处是包容，因为爱，可以让我们的心像蓝天大海一样宽广，一样无私。因为爱的温度能溶化一切。因为，爱是我们生活在这个世界上唯一的理由。

三国时魏国有一文人叫繁钦，他在《与魏文帝笺》中言：“咏北狄之遐征，奏胡马之长思，凄入脾肝，哀感顽艳。”指的是歌声的哀婉凄恻，使愚蠢的人和聪明的人同样受到感动。读了哈代的《苔丝》就是这种感觉。

苔丝是被哈代理想化了的现代女性。在哈代的理想世界中，苔丝是美的象征和爱的化身，代表着威塞克斯人的一切优秀的方面：美丽，纯洁，善良，质朴，仁爱和容忍。苔丝的灵魂是纯洁的，道德是高尚的，但是在资产阶级的道德面前，她却被看成伤风败俗的典型，奉为警戒淫荡的榜样，是侵犯了清白领域的“罪恶化身”。丢下《苔丝》一书，眼前那个历经磨难，失身而又杀人的女人，却使我想起它们，想起我喜欢的两件事物：黎明与茶花。黎明，如处子的皮肤，光洁润滑，在明与未明之际，透着希冀与光亮;有一种茶花，叫“雪塔”，她洁白肥硕，细腻如瓷，在寒冷的季节里，傲然怒放，在出尘与入世间，清丽如水，独自芬芳。也许他们风马牛不相及，但是，我觉得它们同出一处，那便是纯洁。正因为这一点《苔丝》的故事才更凄凉。

苔丝为什么会有“哀感顽艳”之能呢苔丝的“哀”既有社会的因素，也与她的性格有关。

毫无疑问，苔丝的“哀”首先是“社会制哀”。哈代的“威塞克斯”小说是以其故乡威塞克斯为背景的。19世纪中期英国资本主义工业文明侵入农村，面对工业文明带来的后果，哈代作为一个人道主义着者，心灵受到强烈冲击，在感情上深深地依恋古老的宗法文明，痛恨工业文明对人们和谐生存状态的摧毁。《苔丝》中，哈代对当时工业文明对乡村的冲击进行了全景式描绘，然后以苔丝家作为个体农民的缩影，深入展现人们在物质困境中的痛苦挣扎。社会悲剧是人同社会环境的冲突造成的。苔丝生活在英国资本主义侵袭到农村并毒化社会气氛的维多利亚时代。这位弱女子，尽管聪明美丽，勤劳善良，但家贫如洗，经济拮据，负担沉重，她处于低下的社会地位，作为一个劳动者，一个无权无钱的农业工人，自然会受到资本主义社会的种种压迫和凌辱，这些压迫和凌辱有经济的，权势的，肉体的，更有精神的，宗教的，道德的，传统观念的。她的“哀”是时代造成的，同时，亚雷和克雷代表了把苔丝推向深渊的两种不同的客观社会势力，他们直接地共同造成了苔丝的社会悲剧。

苔丝在绿草如茵，风景如画的乡野里长大，尽管家庭生活窘迫，但少女时代的苔丝内心是明朗，欢快的。她热爱生活，敢于面对一切困难，为了维持家庭，不惜牺牲自己。苔丝一生都是强权和暴力的受害者。亚雷之所以敢称霸四野，为非作歹，为所欲为，不仅因为他有钱，有势，而且更主要的是有资产阶级国家机器，法律的保护。社会和法律都认为侮辱和迫害苔丝的人是正当的，而受迫害的苔丝则是有罪的。苔丝一生都必得逆来顺受，忍受含垢，不能自卫，而当她有生以来第一次起来自卫的时候，“’典型’明证了，埃斯库罗斯所说的那个众神主宰对于苔丝的戏弄也完结了。”苔丝成了资产阶级国家祭坛上的祭品。苔丝的悲惨遭遇，社会对苔丝的不公正，表明了资产阶级法律的不仁道和虚伪。

苔丝的“哀”，在社会制哀的总前提下，同时又是性格制哀，其“哀”的成因不仅有客观的而且还有主观的，亦即说不仅有外在的，而且还有内在的。

我们在论及了苔丝“哀”的诸种社会因素之后，还应该指出的是造成她痛苦，不幸的还有其自我的原。苔丝是勇敢的，她敢于大胆地反抗传统道德，追求幸福，然而她却不能彻底摆脱传统道德对自身的羁绊，这又表现了她性格软弱的一面。

她“根据陈腐无聊的习俗，布置了不同情自己的形体和声音”，用“一堆使自己无故害怕的道德精灵”来恐吓自己。即使在大自然中间，“老是把自己看作一个罪恶的化身，侵犯了清白的领地”。这种静观的结果，必然造成她内在的自我折磨和谴责，因此，使她所受的磨难，所遭受的不幸和痛苦，就更加沉重和强烈。这种“灵魂有罪”，使她负疚，自责，使她即使被克莱无情抛弃，也认为是自己的罪过，默默忍受命运的摆布。因此，她在遭到世俗舆论，传统道德迫害的同时，又受制于它的道德准则，毫不留情地责难自己;她在大胆地反抗传统道德的同时，又囿于它的观念成为传统维护者。故而说，苔丝哀婉的美学特质在社会制哀总前提下，又属于性格制哀。因而她的“哀”更深刻，更感人。

《苔丝》中亚雷有一句话：“美是要付出代价的。”苔丝用美换取了人们无限的“哀伤”，无论是愚蠢还是聪慧，都会被苔丝的“凄美”而伤。

这本书主要讲了：苔丝的父亲听说自己是古代贵族的后裔，便要女儿去一个自称是德伯后裔的富老太婆家攀亲。苔丝到了那儿却被老太婆的儿子亚历克诱奸了。苔丝在牛奶场做工时与 安奇尔相爱。当他把昔日的不幸向丈夫坦白，安奇尔却没有原谅他而是抛下她前往巴西发展。苔丝家里陷入窘境，丈夫沓无音讯，绝望中的她只能被迫和亚历克同居。安奇尔回国来找妻子。但苔丝觉得没有脸面重回丈夫的怀抱，只好杀死了亚力克。与丈夫一起度过了幸福的五天后，苔丝被捕了......当苔丝还是一个什么都不懂的小女孩时，亚历克就把她的一生的幸福给毁了，而亚历克却理由充分的说他这样做是因为他爱苔丝，难道这样也是爱的方法那？他这样的方法只能找来世人的指责、痛恨、羞骂，永远都得不到世人们的认可和祝福。而苔丝呢？她对亚历克只有恨，绝对没有一丝的爱，牵挂，更不要说是怜悯了。安奇尔是一个既温柔又体贴的男人，他不会用花言巧语骗取苔丝的爱，更不会用那种下流的方式得到苔丝。他用自己那持之以恒的精神与爱在一点一点的融化着苔丝的心，并一天一天的用自己的行动感动着苔丝最终获得了苔丝的心。这就是两个人品质的对比，行为的对比，也是结果的对比。苔丝因为被对亚历克的恨冲昏了头脑，蒙撇了双眼，最终在对亚历克的恨和在对安奇尔的爱的两种情绪的交织下杀了亚历克。当他与丈夫安奇尔度过了幸福、快乐、浪漫的五天后便被捕了。在监狱中，她想来想去自己的一生太悲凉了以至使她无法去面对，只好自杀了······

——读《德伯家的苔丝》有感

故事是从美丽的马洛特村开始的，这个在作者笔下“泉水从不干涸，土地永不枯黄，远离尘嚣的肥沃原野”，犹如世外桃源般呈现在人们眼前。在这片“精致”的土地上，生活着同它一样精致的乡村姑娘苔丝。她纯净如同蓝天中的一朵白云，又美丽娟秀如同娇艳欲滴的玫瑰。在这样一个万物都看似美好的乡村田园里，悲剧的种子已被悄悄深埋进土壤，也注定了苔丝将走向毁灭的命运。

当看到监狱的旗杆缓缓升起黑旗，我心中的悲伤突然减轻了，取而代之的是一种如释重负的感觉。对于承受痛苦远多于喜悦的苔丝来说，死又何尝不是一种解脱。苔丝离开了，留下累积已久的悲伤，带着她短暂的幸福走了。其中导致她悲剧性一生的因素是深刻而又复杂的，这关乎当时的社会状况、苔丝的自身性格与悲剧命运的必然性。

《德伯家的苔丝》是哈代著称于世的“威塞克斯系列”中的一部力作。作者对19世纪英国西南部农村自然景色的优美描述，字里行间无不浸透着浓郁的诗情画意。尤其是他采用了诗歌的艺术手法，将自然界的优美景色与人物的细腻感情结合起来描写：通过自然景色来揭示人的心境，又通过人的心境来使自然景象充满人的情感，这种巧妙的结合产生出诗的意境，因而具有很强的艺术感染力，使人读来真觉得是一种惬意的享受。

小说描述了一位纯洁姑娘的不幸命运。主人公苔丝是一位美丽的农家少女，因受东家少爷亚雷诱奸而失身，导致怀孕。从此，这一耻辱的事实剥夺了她接受真正爱情的权利，致使新婚之夜遭丈夫安玑遗弃。后来，万般无奈之中，她重回了亚雷的怀抱，不料，就在这时她那有名无实的丈夫安玑拖着病驱千里归来，苦苦寻觅。苔丝为了自己真正的爱，毅然杀死同居的少爷亚雷，在与安玑短暂欢聚后，走上了绞刑台。

父亲德伯的愚昧无知，贪图富贵，使苔丝跌下了社会的的深渊，失去了属于自己的快乐，贞洁，终日生活在痛苦之中；而亚雷的邪恶无耻则将苔丝少女的所有美好梦想化为灰烬，恍惚度日，在异地他乡遇见了安玑，遇上了改变她人生的第三件事——与安玑•克莱相爱。而正是这个安玑•克莱，正是这个有着天使之名的懦弱男人，懦夫——最终造成了苔丝的悲剧，他才是该背上十字架的人。导致这一悲剧起因的罪魁祸首固然是亚雷克，但导致悲剧结局的还有苔丝名义上的丈夫克莱尔。亚雷克只是赤裸裸的剥夺了苔丝的贞洁，从肉体上揭开了悲剧的序幕；克莱尔却使这场悲剧落下了帏幕，他在新婚之夜抛弃了苔丝，从精神上导致了悲剧的发展。倘若克莱尔没有抛弃苔丝，没有披着那层虚伪的道德面纱，也就不会有这场悲剧的发展与结局，但命运是不可预测的，天有不测风云，人间有的是悲惨的人。

在苔丝是不幸时，她又是幸运的，因为在她短暂的一生中，在她遭遇抛弃时，不离不弃的是那份温暖的友情。在苔丝回到娘家又身无分文时，因为失恋而酗酒的玛丽安又帮她找到了一份工作，使苔丝的生活又有了一丝光亮。在那些阴霾的日子中，温暖着苔丝冰冷的心的依然是这份暖人的友情；伊丝朴实的话语，体现了她高尚的品质„„

让我们为这份友情喝彩！

让我不明白的是，一个很好的天真女孩为什么会落的如此结果？她有什么错？漂亮？天真？自尊？也许你的天真善良真诚是你美之源，亦是悲之源。文章中亚雷有一句话：“美是要付出代价的。”苔丝用美换取了人们无限的“哀伤”，无论是愚蠢还是聪慧，都会被苔丝的“凄美”而伤。

苔丝是“一个清新、纯洁的大自然的女儿”，“在气质和体貌两方面都表现出一种尊贵的端庄，俨然是个皇后”，“她周身洋溢着诗意，一举一动都是诗，把诗人只在纸上写写的诗，活生生地显现出来了”，这是作者对她的评价；虽然苔丝是个失贞的女人，甚至最后沦为了杀人犯，但作者还是大胆地摒弃了世俗的观念，赞扬她为“一个纯洁的女人”，“远远胜过别的处女的清新”。

面对如此圣洁的女子，有人会说安玑•克莱才是真正该批判的人，但是无疑他生活在那个时代，他需要时间来释放自己，不可忽视的是，安玑•克莱是爱苔丝的，至少那爱是真的，而不是像亚雷一样，只有肉欲，把苔丝当做自己的玩偶。所以我认为苔丝的悲剧应该是当时的时代所酿成的，或许在现代社会也会有这样的事情发生，不过对于像苔丝一样的人来说，生存的机会就多了

这就是„„就是苔丝的遭遇吗„„，让我有种冲动，想鞭挞当时的社会，指责亚雷的无耻行径，藐视安玑的懦弱，同情苔丝的悲惨遭遇，彼岸花开，人还在吗，花落人也老„„
