第1篇:苔丝英文读后感

Impreion of the Te of the D’Urbervilles

In general, the book Te of the D’Urbervilles tells us a story about the life of the heroine named Te.We can say that Te’s life is greatly influence by two men: Alec D’Urbervilles who seduces her and Angel Clare with whom she really fall in love. The first person appearing in the book is Te’s father who happens to know from a parson that he is a direct descendant of the ancient and noble family of the D’Urbervilles. He is very happy and proud of his descent, despite that he is still very poor. And he wants Te to go to the house of a rich “relative” and want to get help from them. From this we can see the vanity of people and the social hierarchy. At first, Te does not want to do so.But after the only horse in their house died, she has no choice but to seek help from the relative. The situation is caused by the social environment at that time.In the first half of the 19th century, Britain experienced great changes in the politic and economic areas. The industrial revolution bringing up at the end of the 18th century was flourishing in the 1830s.In 1846, Repeal of the Corn Laws was carried out and it became the symbol of the decline of agricultural labor force and the increase of urban labor force.Te and her family are the representatives of rural labors. They work very hard to make a living, being exploited and oppreed.Alec D’Urbervilles, the son of a rich merchant who buys the noble title of D’Urbervilles. He is attractive to Te at first sight and seduces Te afterward. When Te is sad about being seduced, Alec says to her , “well, you're very sad,Te,and you have no reason to be”.This sentence shows that men at that time do not pay respects to women. In other sense, if we say that Te is the representative of rural labors, Alec is the symbol of the right, power, evil, and wealth of the bourgeoisie. However he finally becomes a priest. To me, it seems so irony. From this , we can see the influence of the Bible. In Bible, Eve eats the apple coaxed by the Satan, and then she gives the apple to Adam.So people tend to think that women are more evil than men.Angel Clare is the youngest son of the Reverend. He goes against what the family

had intended for him, a career in the ministry, like his father and brothers.Instead, Angel pursues a career that seems opposite of what his family would like for him----farming.In this sense, he can be considered as a free thinker, but his notions of morality turn out to be fairly conventional. He rejects Te on their wedding night when she confees that she isn’t a virgin, although like Te, Angel also has a past when he was nearly led into a relationship with a woman in London. This shows the inequality between the men and women. Why can Alec ask for forgivene from Te when he is not willing to do the same? The only reason I can find is the religious factor. In Bible, it is said that woman is made from man's rib.Maybe because of this, Alec thinks Te should only belong to him.So selfish a man he is!

Finally I want to say something about Te.Firstly, what imprees me most about her is her sacrifice for the family. She goes to Alec’s house just because the horse they need to supply the family died, which lead to her being seduced. However, after her dad died, for her family, she has to surrender to Alec which she would never do if there were other choices.Secondly, I admire her courage. After being seduced, she does not take it for her fate and she begins to resist. When Alec asks her to stay, she says“It's true.I have never loved you,and I never can Perhaps I should tell a lie and then I could lead a comfortable life. But I have enough honor not to tell that lie.If I loved you,I might have a very good reason to tell you so.But I don't.” She is so brave that she choose to face all the difficulties, even be a mother unmarried.Thirdly, Te is loyal to love. She does not love Alec, so she chooses to leave.Still, for love, she chooses to wait, no matter how long it will take for her husband to come back.Just as what Angel Clare finally perceives, “the Te he had first loved had separated her body from her soul. Her soul remained and would remain faithful to him for ever. But what happened to her body no longer interested her after he had rejected it.”At the end of the book, Te kills Alec. And after leading several happy days with her husband Clare, she is arrested by the police.“She stood up and went towards the waiting men.‘I am ready,’she said quietly.” Yeah, she is ready. When she chooses to kill Alec and follow Clare, she knows the ending, which she will never regret.

第2篇:《苔丝》英文读后感

A pure woman Te

Many people can hardly accept that Te was pure because on the hand she was chastity but on the other hand she killed somebody. But that opinion only existed in Hardy's time, now, more and more people admire that Te was a pure woman. As far as I am concerned, Te was a pure woman.Everybody who has read the novel or watched the movie believed that Te was a pure woman. And Te was the incarnation of pure, though she has had some unfortunate experiences. She was regarded as a beautiful, pure, strong and enduring woman. But why we call Te-a “degenerate” woman-a pure woman?

First, as we know, she was born pure.At the beginning of the movie, we saw many women, all dreed in white, paraded to the main square and there do a dance. One of the “walkers” was Durbeyfield’s pretty, innocent, sixteen-year old daughter Te.She was “at this time of her life a mere veel of emotion, untinctured by experience.” Te’s beautiful face, white dre and pure temperament made a good impreion to us.Later, she was forced to be a service of the Stokes, working on the estate’s poultry farm. But unfortunately, she was seduced by Alec, a fraud as well as a morally corrupt person. And from then on her life totally changed from this lo of innocence.People looked down on her and respected her no more.Actually she did nothing wrong because before

she was seduced she knew nothing of men.She was just a girl when she first met that terrible man.So we can say that Te was born pure, she was merely, she didn’t know Alec would hurt her, it provided that she was a pure girl.Second, Te’s love was pure.In the Talbothdays dairy, she met Angel Clare, an educated, reserved, subtle, sad and differing man.As time went on, they knew and loved each other.Angel popped the question to her but she refused him without saying why.She said she loved him deeply and perhaps no one in the world could love him more than she did but she could not marry him for some unspoken reason.Angel wasn’t satisfied with this vague answer and did his best to win Te.Somehow she agreed and they soon fixed the wedding day.Soon after their wedding Angel confeed the crime he committed to a woman long time ago and asked for Te’s forgivene.Te was not at all angry and forgave Angel at once;in fact she was rather happy and excited for she also had things to confe. She sat and told everything to Angel, hoping he would forgive her as he was forgiven but she was wrong. She was not forgiven, not as she thought she was the woman pays.Without Angel’s love, nothing meant anything to her.The result wasn’t important now.Te was arrested for her murder of that so-called gentleman. Why? She still loved Angel and when he finally went back to her and asked for her forgivene, after he regretted what he had done

unfair to Te, she was desperate. That was too late—Alec had always told Te that Angel would never come back so he won Te’s trust.Unluckily Angel did come back and found Te.Everything was too late!Te was deceived and she lost Angel for the second time! The strength of her love was so strong that she had forgotten the difference between right and wrong. Before that she had done nothing wrong but when she killed Alec, everything really changed! She became a criminal! How could it be? She was as pure and innocent as the good wife in the Bible. Her whole character was honest and faithful.Angel figured out at last that a person should be judged not only on what he has done but also on what he wanted to do!

Te’s impure in body served as a foil to her soul’s pure. She did not love Alec totally, so she tended to tell the truth to her lover.Te didn’t want to be seduced by man and she had no power to defend herself so she lost her innocence and that’s all!Angel also did the wrong thing and it was even more serious than Te’s crime but he was not blamed for it.Why it is always the woman who pays? Why they are always hurt? Why was Te’s girlish purity lost? Why does the wrong man take the wrong woman? Why do the bad often ruin the good? Why is beauty damaged by ugline? Women are too weak!Thousands of years of history have shown us that women have always been treated unfairly!

In old China there was a culture, which didn’t think of women as

human beings. If you asked one if he was the oldest in his family, he would probably answer “the oldest one” even if he had some elder sisters. If you asked why then he would say, “Ha, they are not included!”

People gave birth to many girls in order to have only one boy to keep the family name going. They thought girls had no use for the family. They would be married and go to live with their husbands’ home and be their wives some day sooner or later. So they were extremely hard on girls.Girls should be hard working, faithful, loyal, intelligent, and virtuous and the most important thing was she must be a maiden! If her husband was the first man who touched her then she was a good girl, a good wife no matter how she thought. If she wasn’t, then she would gain a very bad reputation and nobody would dare to go near her. What about men? People did not care whether he was an experienced man or not, nor did they care about his character. Now let’s not be so bitter.Nowadays women’s situations have become much better. Some are because of the change of society and some are because of civilization.Just let those poor painful women like Te be just a memory. In short, as a girl, we should be self-loved and strong.

第3篇:英文苔丝读后感

TESS is really a tragic figure in the book TESS of the d’Urberwilles

She was seduced by a so-called gentleman—Alec, and from then on her life totally changed from this lo of innocence.People looked down on her and respected her no more.Actually she did nothing wrong because before she was seduced she knew nothing of men.She was just a girl when she first met that terrible man.She was forced by the goips and the church to blame herself for this accident, so she thought she deserved nothing good.In order to get rid of the past she decided to go to a distant dairy farm but was still saying to herself that she was wrong.Maybe God didn’t agree with that, because the Lord gave her someone she loved with her whole heart and life—Angel Chare.Angel popped the question to her but she refused him without saying why.She said she loved him deeply and perhaps no one in the world could love him more than she did but she could not marry him for some unspoken reason.Angel wasn’t satisfied with this vague answer and did his best to win Te.Somehow she agreed and they soon fixed the wedding day.Soon after their wedding Angel confeed the crime he committed to a woman long time ago and asked for Te’s forgivene.Te was not at all angry and forgave Angel at once;in fact she was rather happy and excited for she also had things to confe. She sat and told everything to Angel, hoping he would forgive her as he was forgiven but she was wrong. She was not forgiven, not as she thought she was.The woman pays.Without Angel’s love, nothing meant anything to her.The result wasn’t important now.Te was arrested for her murder of that so-called gentleman. Why? 第4篇:《苔丝》英文读后感

All about Woman When I read the novel Te of the D’Urbervilles ten years ago for the first time, I was merely shocked by Te’s miserable and tragic fate. What a lovely and kind girl! She did nothing wrong but she had to bear all these adversities that she didn’t deserve. At that time I was just a naive little girl in junior high school. Now reviewing this famous novel again, I realize that there is still much to be found and thought about in it.Great as Hardy is, he definitely wanted to tell readers more than a tragic story purely.Te was the eldest daughter of her family and she had no choice but to bear the responsibility of rallying her family and repaying the debts. She was beautiful, innocent and pure without big ambition or desire for things that didn’t belong to her.Nobody ever doubted that she deserved happine and peace. But things seldom go on as we expected.Te was deprived of virginity and she was no longer ‘pure’ as she used to be.What’s worse, she got pregnant as a result.Te gave birth to the baby and decided to raise the baby all by herself. At that time, she showed her admirable qualities—being tough and decisive. We all hope that she can start a brand new life and cut off all contact with the past after her baby’s death. However, for the second and third time, God cheated and mocked her.Sometimes I wonder why a nice woman couldn’t end up with a nice man.Is it just like the saying that beautiful women suffer unhappy fates? Te always mied her Mr.right and her Mr.wrong always disturbed her life and wouldn’t let her go.All the three person misunderstand what’s love.Alec thought love to be deprival and occupation;Angel thought love to be purity and ideal;Te thought love to be toleration and waiting. They stuck in their illusion of love of which they never managed to get out.Alec and Te was dead.As for Angel, he might as well be dead.Who is to blame for this tragedy? Alec, Te or Angel? Or ridiculous fate?

I believe it was Te herself.Certainly, that bad age and those hypocritical men were executioners that push Te into the aby of destruction. But Te should have led a better life if she don’t treat herself as a satellite of men.How stupid is she to spend her life waiting for a man who betrayed her and escaped away when she was dying for help! When there is no help offered by men, women should fight on their own instead of waiting for men’s mercy and forgivene since there is nothing needed to be forgiven.Women’s tragedy will never come to an end until they treat themselves as totally independent, which means they can lead a normal life with or without men.

第5篇:苔丝英文读后感

Te of the D’Urbervilles

About the writer: Thomas Hardy Te of the D’Urbervilles was written by the famous writer Thomas Hardy.Thomas Hardy(1840---1928), who is an English novelist. His father is a stoneworker, who is fond of music. His parents thought much of the education of their son.He grown up in the Dorset shire, so the environment of there became the main backdrop of his writings. His writings often reflecting the change after capitalism intrude the countries in England and the people’s hard life.At first, Hardy wrote some novels, and in his old age, he worked on poets.Te of the D’Urbervilles was one of his “Weex series” works. The book which I read was published in the year 1891.Thomas Hardy facing the terror of the war and propagating the love-kindne, he is one of the greatest English writers. The summary of the book Te of the D’Urbervilles was about a beautiful and industrious girl Te, all her life, her unfortunate life and her very tough love story.Te comes from a farmer’s family, the Durbeyfields. One day her father, John Durbeyfied was told that they are descended from the D’Urbervilles, an ancient family.Herparents were so happy that they urged Te to close to their relatives and wanted to look foe wealth who he thought at local. In fact, their relatives never thought that, because their immense property relied on usury and the family name was just moved from museum.Unwillingly, the girl comes in contact with the Stoke, D’Urbervilles. There she meets Alec D’Urbervilles.Having received a job of tending to chickens, Te stays in the D’Urbervilles. Before long the rich but guileful Alec manages to seduce the girl and make her pregnant.Being disappointed and sad, Te went home she found she had already had a baby. She gave birth to child between insult and abuse, but it was died in fancy, desperate she was, so she decided to another place and found a job at dairy factory in the South, where she meets Angel Claire.Angel lived in a very wealthy family priest and he did not want to follow his family’s career.Instead of going to university he decided to work on the farm and began his own career. But when he met Te he found he loved her very much.He always wanted to help her and gave some knowledge to her.Even he wanted her to be his wife.Te loved him at same time, but she could not love him because of what had happened in her past at that miserable time. She did not want him knew that.Angel did not know all of these. He wanted her married with him as soon as poible and Te.In the wedding night, Te admits about Alec D’Urbervilles and the child. She begs for forgivene, but Angel leaves her in disgust.Te again returns home alone, only find that her father died suddenly and their house was taken away by its owner. All her family was homele.Te was so helple that she made minds writing to her husband and wanted him come back and protected her.At Brazil Angel was not quite good, also had a bad life.He regretted abandoning his wife very much and wanted to go home.In the meantime, Alec D’Urbervilles appears again. He promises to support her family, only as a means to make Te dependent. At the end of hope, the girl jumps into the trap of the shamele man. However, Angel Claire, who is remorseful for his mercilene comes back, which makes Te even more desperate. After Angel leaves, she kills Alec. Then she follows Angel and escape with him. They manage to hide for a while in a wood before she is arrested. They had a very short happy time on the moors, but on a placidly morning she was arrested by police and then hang.Angle followed her will and married with his sister-in-law with great sorrow and confeion, and began a new life.Good sentences

The mute proceion past her shoulders of trees and hedges became attached to fantastic scenes outside reality, and the occasional heave of the wind became the sigh of some immense sad soul, conterminous with the universe in space, and with history in time. The pointed shaft of the cart had entered the breast of the unhappy Prince like a sword, and from the wound his life's blood was spouting in a stream, and falling with a hi into the road. The atmosphere turned pale, the birds shook themselves in the hedges, arose, and twittered;the lane showed all its white features, and Te showed hers, still whiter. The huge pool of blood in front of her was already auming the iridescence of coagulation;and when the sun rose a hundred prismatic hues were reflected from it.Prince lay alongside still and stark;his eyes half open, the hole in his chest looking scarcely large enough to have let out all that had animated him.In the ill-judged execution of the well-judged plan of things the call seldom produces the comer, the man to love rarely coincides with the hour for loving. It was always beautiful from here;it was terribly beautiful to Te to day, for since her eyes last fell upon it she had learnt that the serpent hies where the sweet birds sing, and her views of life had been totally changed for her by the leon. The denser nocturnal vapours, attacked by the warm beams, were dividing and shrinking into isolated fleeces within hollows and coverts, where they waited till they should be dried away to nothing. The past was past;whatever it had been it was no more at hand.Whatever its consequences, time would close over them;they would all in a few years be as if they had never been, and she herself graed down and forgotten.Meanwhile the trees were just as green as before;the birds sang and the sun shone as clearly now as ever. The familiar surroundings had not darkened because of her grief, nor sickened because of her pain. She was not an existence, an experience, a paion, a structure of sensations, to anybody but herself. To all humankind besides Te was only a paing thought.Even to friends she was no more than a frequently paing thought. If she made herself miserable the livelong night and day it was only this much to them--'Ah, she makes herself unhappy.' If she tried to be cheerful, to dismi all care, to take pleasure in the daylight, the flowers, the baby, she could only be this idea to themdark-green islands of dry herbage the size of their carcases, in the general sea of dew. From each island proceeded a serpentine trail, by which the cow had rambled away to feed after getting up, at the end of which trail they found her;the snoring puff from her nostrils, when she recognized them, making an intenser little fog of her own amid the prevailing one.Te was conscious of neither time nor space. The exaltation which she had described as being producible at will by gazing at a star, came now without any determination of hers;she undulated upon the thin notes of the second-hand harp, and their harmonies paed like breezes through her, bringing tears into her eyes. The floating pollen seemed to be his notes made visible, and the dampne of the garden the weeping of the garden's sensibility.Though near nightfall, the rank-smelling weed-flowers glowed as if they would not close for intentne, and the waves of colour mixed with the waves of sound.Impreion of the book This is a dolorous book. This is a story of love.Te, the poor girl as innocent as the sleeping birds in the trees, or the small field animals in the hedges. Her life was destroyed gradually and really---not by her energy, but by the people who said loves her. What kind of this love is? What make the love destroy its lover? Te’s parents loved her, but it was just an instinctive love;Alec said love to her, but it was an evil love;Angel said love to her as well, but it was an immature and selfish love.He wanted Te to forgive him, but he couldn’t forgive Te.In front of love, Te was so humble. She wrote to her husband and said: I would be content, to live with you as your servant, If I may not as your wife.So that I could only be near you, and get glimpse of you, and think of you as mine.Although she loved him with all her paion, she had her own pride. She did not want to leave him use lots of methods, she just wanted him come back to her willingly, rather than forced him. When he left, she only said: May I write to you? God played with Te so much. When her right man appeared, God yet didn’t give her happine.Te didn’t make any mistakes, but at last, she born all punishments and sufferings. At first, God had let the two persons mi each other.A tragedy was doomed. But perhaps no love, no hatred, no dignity, death was the best way for Te to extricate herself. What the love really it is, it is worthy someone to afford their lives for it? Why only the women had to pay? I thought of these problems for a long time.In the 19th England, women had not status, they live very hard because people’s prejudice.Te is the victim under the not fair environment, she lives with force, and even the law thinks the insults are allowable! At the end of the book, Fortune's wheel bereaves the last thing she had—her life. How to vindicate the women’s right? Expect change the people’s prejudice women must learn to be adamancy and independent. We must know how to take care of ourselves. We must have the ability to feed ourselves, so that we can win the independent of personality and life. And so that we can have a pure au pair love. The word “woman” doesn’t means “puny”!
