暑假里我有幸读了马克·吐温写的，怪不得那么多的读者都深受这本名著的迷恋，一翻开书，里面生动，有趣的故事情节就深深的吸引了我。故事的大概内容是这样的：主人公亨利·亚当斯在被确定是一个诚实但贫穷的人后，受到一对奇怪的兄弟为了打赌而“借”给他的一百万英镑。他的遭遇也十分有趣，人们先是从穿着上看不起他，当他拿出一百万英镑希望别人找钱时，人们不但对他点头哈腰，卑躬屈膝，而且就连对亨利来说比较昂贵的一些费用也不需要他马上支付，甚至有些人都愿意直接不要钱，因为他们不但找不开钱，而且坚信这位百万富翁，一定不会在意这点“小”钱的。最后亨利不但如获至宝地得到了一位如花似玉的妻子，还获得了三万英镑的利息。
虽然，这样的事情在现实生活中根本不会发生，但作者却用这样夸张的手法，讽刺了现代社会对“金钱万能”的理念。衣店服务员见了衣衫褴褛的人置之不理，可当他看到了

金子，黄黄的，发光的，宝贵的金子!这东西，只要那么一点儿，就可以使黑的变成白的，丑的变成美的，错的变成对的，卑贱的变成尊贵的，老人变成少年，懦夫变成勇士„„这就是马克吐温笔下的真实写照。
描述了一个流落伦敦的美国人亨利·亚当，他遇上两名打赌的伦敦亿万富翁，从而得么一张百万英镑的支票。亨利饥肠辘辘，去了一家饭店，老板见他像个穷光蛋，打发他到角落里，侍者也觉得他没钱付，当他结账时，所有人都惊呆了，支票却是一百万!于是他被当成了一个行为古怪的百万富翁，不仅吃饭免了单，临走时老板还对他两次90 度的鞠躬!
由于衣衫破旧，他准备做一套衣服，在服装店内，营业
员将他一个推给另一个，最后被推到了成衣间。小店员极为势利，给他一件很不合身的衣服打发他，结账前还讽刺他一番。当亨利拿出百万英镑时，小店员竟哭了起来!老板知道后，为亨利免单量身订做了48 套一年四季在各种场合穿着的衣服!
马克·吐温着重揭露了当时社会金钱至上的拜金主义，钱!成了衡量一切的标准!非常可笑的是，当一名开玩笑的英国贵族将支票藏起来后，股市大跌，人们开始怀疑亨利是否有支票，众人都来拆他的台。一个贵族骂了亨利，衣服也被收走，可是，当支票又重新回到亨利的手中时，那位贵族马上又笑逐颜开说：“上帝保佑您!”衣服又原封不动送了回来。其实这种现象在我们现实社会中又何尝没有，有的情节比这种说话变卦、态度变卦更加严重!,一些医生为了钱，可以为病人做不必要的检查，给病人吃不必要的药，把假的弄得比真的还认真!在这种丧失医德、人性的医生眼里，金钱比生命更可贵!
不管如何爱钱，不要丢掉做人最基本的诚实的本性;不管怎样爱钱，不要抛弃道德、良知;不管怎样爱钱，不要伤害别人;不管怎样爱钱，必须通过正当途径来获得!

这个暑期中，我读了这本书，我懂得了虽然钱不是万能的，但这钱却会让许多人对有钱人点头哈腰，他们为了这张
英镑，拼命地拉拢故事的主人公——亨利·亚当斯，为了这张英镑，从对亨利傲慢无礼一下子转变为了对他点头哈腰，这种行为是非常可耻的。
这个故事讲述了主人公无意中不小心漂泊到了伦敦，伦敦的两位富翁兄弟打了一个赌。哥哥认为如果给他一张百万元的英镑，30天后他会因为无法证明这些钱是自己的而饿死，而弟弟却认为他会活得很好。于是他们就把一张百万英镑给了亨利，自己两人出国旅游了30天。回来后得知亨利因为那张百万英镑被所有人追捧，想拉拢他，几乎所有东西都让他免费买下。并因为这张英镑不断提高社会地位。
最后到了除王室外的最高地位公爵之位，还娶到了一个漂亮的老婆，得到了三万元的银行利息。又从兄弟那儿得到了很好的工作，过上了幸福的生活。
我从中体会到了人们会为了钱拼命拉拢莫个人，对这个人点头哈腰，以及对他从各个方面都顺从和安排得事事到位，就只是为了钱。对没钱的人高傲无礼，对有钱的人低声下气，老老实实。
这使我感到很愤怒，凡事都应该人人平等，而这些人却只看重钱，只要有钱人都会把他招待得很好，可遇到没钱的就会高傲无礼。这人人平等的道理用到哪里去了?
在我们生活中，也经常有这样的事，大家都喊着应该人人平等，但看到有钱人，却缺一个个都低声下气，只想多拿
些钱，多赚一点，我认为这是很不正气的表现，希望大家都能一起，把城市中的不正之风改过来!

“有钱能使鬼推磨”这句话我从来都不觉得是对的，但是，当我读了《百万英镑》这本书后，我才明白，金钱能带给我们至高无上的尊严。
文中讲述了流浪汉亨利·亚当遇到了打赌的兄弟，并得到了一张大钞票。后来，他去饭店吃饭，老板后来得知他有一张大钞票，便好好巴结他。他又去了买衣服，老板和营业员刚开始的态度却十分苛刻，当老板知道他有巨额后，特意为他做了四十几套衣服。他还在一个晚会上找到了一位好妻子，并赚到了二十万英镑„„
有的人一辈子为了赚钱，幸苦了一辈子，也累了一辈子，他们是幸福快乐的。他们靠自己的双手去创造属于自己的舞台。但是，有的人靠一些卑鄙的手段去赚钱，虽然他们得到了一辈子都花不光的钱，享受这天伦之乐，可他们却是悲伤痛苦的。因为他们每天都过着一样的生活，久了，就会厌恶幸福的生活。

金钱并不是万能的，它就像洪水般涌来，会让你成为陪葬品。做事情我们都应该有怀有一颗知足的心，做事情也要适度调节，这样才能使人活得更幸福、快乐。
